A message from the Forest Service…

Fire management specialists are tentatively planning a burn tomorrow (April 21, 2016) in Camp Sherman called Metolius 1425, Unit 2a @ approximately 212 acres.  The unit is located 2 miles North of Hwy 20 and 12rd junction and west of House on the Metolius, at T13S R09E. Objectives of this prescribed burn include reducing hazardous fuels in a historically fire-adapted ecosystem, silviculture site prep., and improving wildlife habitat.  Burning operations may commence as early as 1000 hours tomorrow. Smoke will most likely be visible from some sections of Hwy 20, the 14 and 12 roads, and other primary and secondary roads in the area. Ignition operations may last from 4-6 hours. We expect some smoke to linger in the area in the days following the burn, however, it should not be overly extensive as the burn will commence in mostly grass and shrub. Weekend patrols will be active to ensure control lines are secure.
