Our Values
These values guide the activities and actions of Black Butte Ranch RFPD. They demonstrate our belief that the manner in which we work and interact with others must be purposeful and carry the same significance as the outcome we are determined to achieve. At Black Butte Ranch RFPD, we value:
INTEGRITY – We define integrity as “Saying what you will do and then doing it.” We keep our promises to our community, our employees and our neighboring departments. Do the right thing, as the right time, for the right reason. All staff, volunteers and board members of Black Butte Ranch RFPD act with honesty, integrity and openness in all our dealings as representatives of the organization. Our organization promotes a working environment that values respect, fairness and integrity.
PROFESSIONALISM – We, as an organization and as individuals, will strive to be professional in all aspects of the Fire and Emergency Medical Services we provide to the public, in our interactions with other departments and our relationships with each other. Through our commitment to excellence, we will adhere to high standards of achievement and conduct while acting in a manner which befits our position in our community.
RESPECTFULNESS – Through our actions, we will show our community members, fire service constituents and each other the highest level of respect. We will give proper consideration and value to other individual’s opinions, thoughts and ideas. Put simply, we will treat others as we ourselves would like to be treated.
COMPETENCE – We will have and maintain a high level of competence in the fire service through diligent training and our commitment to excel. We will constantly strive to better ourselves and our department by increasing our knowledge base and skills. We will show our competence and perform in a highly competent manner during all emergency incidents as well as our day‑to‑day activities.
COMPASSION – We understand that the emergency incidents we respond to involve real people in a crisis situation. During their crisis, these individuals will experience pain, be it emotional, physical or financial. We, as individuals and as a department, will have compassion for another person’s pain and attempt to alleviate their suffering to the best of our abilities.
